Privacy coins are emerging as unexpected winners in a shaky market, posting gains even as geopolitical tensions between the US and the EU over Washington’s bid to acquire Greenland trigger a broader downturn. As Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other top assets slide, the privacy sector is one of the few pockets of strength.
Monero Outperforms as Investors Flee Volatility
Monero (XMR) has emerged as one of the standout performers amid the geopolitical-driven slump, charting steady gains while significant assets struggle to find support. Interestingly, the privacy giant recently hit an all-time high of $797, reinforcing its strong momentum. According to asset tracker CoinMarketCap, XMR is up over 7% in the past 24 hours, trading around the $635 mark.
Meanwhile, XMR’s advanced privacy architecture, which includes ring signatures, stealth addresses, and bulletproof confidential transactions, makes it the industry’s most established anonymity system. However, contrary to popular opinions, on-chain sleuth ZachXBT believes the recent surge in XMR is tied to a recent hardware wallet social engineering scam.
According to the on-chain sleuth, the attacker stole $282 million in LTC and BTC and converted the funds to XMR across multiple exchanges, resulting in a sharp increase in XMR’s value.
DASH Climbs as Utility and Speed Drive Renewed Interest
Dash is also defying broader market pressure, recording green candles even as altcoins slide deeper into the red. According to CoinMarketCap, DASH is up 107% over the past week but has retraced by 0.2% to $79 over the past 24 hours.
Built as a payments-centered cryptocurrency with optional privacy features, Dash is benefiting from renewed on-chain activity and rising demand for faster, more discreet transaction options.
Recent updates to the Dash Platform, particularly the ongoing improvements to decentralized storage and identity, are lifting confidence across its ecosystem. With trading volumes rising across mid-tier exchanges, Dash is seeing fresh speculative interest as traders search for leaders in a shaky market environment.
Privacy Coins Gain Narrative Strength Amid Market Anxiety
Meanwhile, the privacy narrative continues to gain strength as privacy-focused cryptocurrencies defy the market slump. Aside from XMR and Dash, other privacy coins have also seen significant increases in value, including DUSK, which is up 60% over the past 24 hours.
The privacy sector as a whole also reflected this momentum, seeing a 4% surge in the past 24 hours and a 13.1% increase over the past week, highlighting growing interest as more crypto executives publicly push for stronger privacy in the industry.
Interestingly, these investors see privacy coins as a refuge from increasing oversight as governments explore stricter reporting rules for wallets, validators, and cross-border transfers.
